The 37th European Film Festival of Lima Returns
The 37th European Film Festival once again welcomes audiences in Lima, both in theaters and at outdoor screenings. This traditional event brings European cinema closer to Peruvian viewers year after year, and this year offers an excellent opportunity to discover the latest and best European productions.
Under Finland's Presidency
This 37th edition comes together under Finland's presidency, thanks to the joint commitment of the Embassies of the European Union member states in Peru, the Delegation of the European Union, EUNIC Perú (the network of European Cultural Institutes), and the Filmoteca of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
European Union Support
Furthermore, we can count on the valuable support of the European Commission, through its European cinema promotion program, which since 2018 has been promoting the excellence of European film festivals around the world, led by the consortium formed by the Goethe-Institut, the French Institute, and Cineuropa.
What to Expect from the Festival
The Festival de Cine Europeo de Lima offers a unique selection of films every year, showcasing the diversity and excellence of European cinema. The event is not only entertaining but also a cultural bridge between Europe and Peru, allowing audiences to gain insight into European culture and society through cinema.
Outdoor screenings create a special atmosphere, while theater screenings allow us to enjoy European films in the best quality. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to discover the best of European cinema in Lima!
The Opening Night
I had the privilege of attending the festival's opening, where the Finnish film Orenda was screened. This special occasion gave me the opportunity to gain insight into Finnish cinema and meet the film's creators.
Orenda
Orenda represents an invisible force, a life-filled spirit that dwells in all living and non-living things: in people, wind, birds, rabbits, stones. Those who serve Orenda and sing to it can receive its power. Exploring themes of guilt and mercy, two women's fates intertwine in a tense, emotional thriller set on a remote island. In the acclaimed director Pirjo Honkasalo's new film, Golden Globe-nominated Alma Pöysti and Pirkko Saisio play the leading roles.

I had the opportunity to meet the director, Pirjo Honkasalo, and the film's actress, Pirkko Saisio. It was an unforgettable experience to speak directly with the film's creators and gain insight into the background of the film's production.

After the screening, there was a cocktail party on the rooftop terrace, where we could continue the conversation and enjoy the festival's special atmosphere. This event is a perfect example of how European culture is brought closer to the Peruvian audience and what unique opportunities it creates for cinema lovers.
